Installing ELIAS

ELIAS 18 – Installation and Initial Configuration

Overview

ELIAS 18 is the web-based image management component of UniconOS Management (Scout).

This guide covers preparing for, installing, and performing the initial configuration of ELIAS 18 on Windows. It is based on Citrix’s documentation at Installing ELIAS 18 / Windows.

New Install Preparation

System Requirements

Confirm the target server meets the following minimums before installing.

Component

Requirement

Operating system

Windows Server 2019 or later, 64-bit

Memory

8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB when on same server as UniconOS Management

Disk space

30 GB, depending on container installations; plan for 5 GB per eLux/UniconOS release or container

Web server

IIS 8.0 or later with the WebSocket Protocol feature enabled (required for automatic page refresh)

HTTPS

External web server (IIS) with the website bound to port 443 and a valid server certificate.

Database

MongoDB 6, 7, or 8 (a fresh install installs MongoDB 7 locally by default), or an existing MongoDB instance

Installed automatically

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2, MongoDB 7.0.x, IIS add-ons: External Disk Cache, Web Farm, URL Rewrite, Application Request Routing

Browser support

Firefox 136+, Chrome 137+, or Edge 127+; Full HD resolution; pop-ups enabled

Database connectivity (local install listens on localhost only)

Note: When IIS redirection is used, port 22130 does not need to be opened externally; clients reach ELIAS on 80/443 through the IIS sub-directory. Without IIS, ELIAS listens directly on port 80 (or the port you specify).

ELIAS 18 New Install

Perform these steps on the server that will host ELIAS 18. This guide assumes ELIAS is installed on the same server as UniconOS Management and published through IIS.

Pre-requisites

  • IIS default install with the WebSocket Protocol feature enabled (already completed if you followed the UniconOS Management install guide on this server).
  • Web server certificate (internal Microsoft CA) bound to the IIS Default Web Site on port 443.
  • Log on with the Unicon service account (local administrator) created for UniconOS Management.

1. Right-click EliasInstaller.exe and select Run as administrator.

2. On the first page, select the installation language, read the End User Agreement, check I accept the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.

3. On the MongoDB installation type page, choose one of the following and click Next:

a. Install MongoDB locally – MongoDB is installed on this server and configured to run on localhost only (recommended for a single-server deployment).

4. On the Configure your ELIAS settings page, enter a name for the ELIAS database and click Next.

5. On the Configure your ELIAS access control page:

a. Check Allow Active Directory logon and enter the AD domain used for user authentication

b. Enter and confirm a password for the local admin account built into ELIAS. Limit the length to 12 characters or less and avoid special characters ” and \

c. Click Next.

6. On the Configure your server settings page:

a. Leave the ELIAS web service port at 22130.

b. Check Use IIS for ELIAS redirection

c. Enter the website name to be used for ELIAS: Default Web Site.

d. Enter the path name for ELIAS: elias.

e. Click Next.

7. On the Ready to install ELIAS page, confirm the installation path (default C:\Program Files\Unicon\Scout\ELIAS)

8. Click Install and accept the UAC prompt. Wait for the prerequisites and ELIAS to finish installing.

9. When the installer finishes, an ELIAS desktop shortcut is created containing the URL of the ELIAS 18 installation.

Post-Installation Verification and Initial Configuration

1. Double-click the ELIAS desktop shortcut, or browse to https://<server FQDN>/elias in a supported browser. Select LOCAL LOGON, sign in as admin with the password set during installation, and click LOG ON.

2. (If required) Allow access from other networks. By default only the installation server’s FQDN is permitted for cross-origin requests. Edit config.json.migrated in c:\Program Files\Unicon\Scout\ELIAS (make a copy first) and add the required FQDNs, optionally with a port, comma-separated, to “allowedOrigins”. Avoid the wildcard [“*”] for security reasons.

3. Grant AD administrators access. Click the Access rights icon in the top toolbar.

4. In the New access right dialog, select the group icon, enter the AD group and AD domain, enable Global admin (or assign a more restrictive role), and click SAVE.
