More on conscious leadership…exploring Shakti Leadership

Shakti Leadership by Nilima Bhat and Raj Sisodia

In March Envision President, Nancy Pautsch, joined other business leaders from the Midwest in downtown Chicago to learn more about Shakti Leadership from author and conscious leadership expert, Nilima Bhat. Having read Shakti Leadership, a ground-breaking book co-authored by Nilima and Raj Sisodia, Envision’s ELT were excited to meet Nilima, a true visionary.

Nilima has almost 30 years of corporate experience combined with studies in integral health practices and executive coaching to identify the criticality of leaders to become fully human. She’s delivered leadership training to Microsoft, Societe Generale Bank, Vodafone, and other large companies. Historically and even today, most businesses operate under the hyper-masculine leadership model with roots in conflict, territorialism, and the exercise of power. Nilima speaks to the far-reaching benefits of business, society, ecology, and beyond when leaders are conscious (showing self-mastery and serving a higher purpose) and integrated (expressing mature masculine and feminine values and behaviors).

Nilima’s enlightening teachings stress the importance of presence, true power (or ‘power with’ rather than ‘power over’), and flexibility for leaders. Also, the delineation of positive and negative expressions respectively of masculine and feminine mannerisms. With awareness and presence, whole leaders can draw upon the most applicable positive masculine or feminine energies as needed and restore balance within themselves.

The information brought forth by Nilima generated active dialogue among participants. Leaders were able to identify positive and negative forms of masculine and feminine behaviors by themselves and others in recent experience. Another great learning opportunity from the Chicago chapter of Conscious Capitalism.
